In as many as 80% of cases, an upper eyelid lift may not be enough to correct heavy droopy eyelids especially if there is lateral hooding. Even though it is called a "forehead lift", that lift addresses the position of the eyebrows. When the eyebrows are too low (or ptotic in medical jargon) they become responsible (in part) for the excess skin seen over the upper eyelids. So the goal of a forehead lift is to place the eyebrows in a more superior position. There are several ways to to perform a forehead lift from "ear to ear" incision to the new endoscopic technique.
At the Sammamish Center the endoscopic technique is used so to avoid any undesirable scarring across the scalp. The endoscopic technique uses a tiny camera to fix the tissues and a biological glue is used thus avoiding the use of foreign material. The downtime is about 5 days. A forehead lift does not preclude an upper eyelid lift. Even after a forehead lift there will be still some excess skin to be removed from the upper eyelids.
Whether you are having surgery for functional or cosmetic reasons, your choice of a qualified facial plastic surgeon is of paramount importance. During the consultation, Dr. Gaboriau will examine your facial structure, the condition of your skin, and your hairline in order to decide where incisions should be made. A thorough medical history will be obtained so that your surgeon can consider any medical conditions that may heighten surgical risks. A detailed description of the procedure will also include a discussion of risks involved.
As with all elective surgery, good health and realistic expectations are prerequisites. To see what a forehead lift can do for your face, put your hands above your brows and outside the edges of your eyes and gently raise the skin upwards. Forehead lifts are an option if you have a sagging brow or deep furrows between the eyes. This procedure is usually done between age forty and sixty-five, although it may be necessary at an earlier age.
