Sciton's ProLipo™
Laser Body Contouring

Laser Lipolysis with ProLipo is a minimally invasive way to remove fat and tighten skin. Any areas of the body that have pockets of unwanted body fat can be improved with ProLipo™. For patients who only have loose
skin without any fat deposits, ProLipo can also be used to tighten skin. ProLipo is faster and more tolerable than regular liposuction or Lipo dissolve. ProLipo uses a laser through a slender fiber to liquefy fat cells while shaping the body, resulting in a more firm and attractive body.

--Very rapid results
--Little downtime
--Minimal bruising and discomfort
--Fast treatment time

Patient Safety and Education

medical alert

When performed safely by a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist,
liposuction can be a solution for patients who wish to improve any areas of the
body that have pockets of unwanted fat. I always take extra time with my patients
to correctly assess their needs and to provide them with all available information to make them feel comfortable with both the prospect of any aesthetic treatment and the outcome. My patients respect the fact that I give them all of the right information to make an informed decision about their own health care.
It is very important to note that no surgical procedure is ever completely safe
and certain safety procedures must always be followed:
·   You must have a companion! The patient must always have a dedicated caregiver for the first twenty-four hours after having liposuction
performed. Under no circumstances should the patient ever be left alone.
·   Know your physician! Before undergoing any surgical procedure, a patient must do the necessary research and due diligence in selecting a physician who is board certified.
Call the center to learn if you are a good candidate!
After careful assessment of your overall health & wellness, and the level of improvement you desire, I will personalize your treatment plan.

Henri's Wine Pick of the Crop!

Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Estate Bottled 2006

he first thing you will notice about this wine is its  yellow color! This full- bodied chardonnay is vibrant with notes of fresh orange, fig and pear atop a clear foundation of lemon-mineral flavors.  Add a hint of cardamom and hazelnut and you have a delicious chardonnay that takes at least six to eight years in the
making. This wine is a classic by California
standards because it has been in production since the 1970s and made from vines which were planted at a high altitude in the Santa Cruz Mountains just south of San Francisco. There is something about this wine that is wonderfully old world and yet contemporary enough to serve with the lightest fare-a fine companion to any great crab dish! -Henri P. Issue: # 26                                         April 23,  2010

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Patients:

When springtime arrives in the northwest, the air is often made fragrant with rain and the vegetation coming back to life. The same holds true in France, especially in the
countryside where so many flavorful vegetables and fruits are grown. Here in the northwest, we don't always get to see the sun in full force every day, but I am always thankful for the abundance and variety of vegetation that has a habit of making its way to our dining tables!

Now that the days are growing longer and warmer, there is a general shedding of clothes taking place and people tend to be more conscious about their bodies and overall self image. Last month, we arrived at some ways to achieve good heath by maintaining a regular exercise regimen. Despite our ongoing adherence to proper nutrition and exercise, we may still have unwanted pockets of fat. This can be due to a whole variety of
factors, including genetics, the aging process and hormonal activity. In many instances, liposuction can be a solution for patients who are still unable to achieve a healthy weight and shape after making serious commitments to exercise and a diet prescribed by a registered nutritionist. So in this issue of Face Forward, I want to give you some information about whether liposuction is a viable option for enhancing your own body and self-image.

This month we have my delicious recipe for Crab Bisque that
goes so well with my favorite spring vegetable-asparagus. I am also recommending a wonderful classic California Chardonnay.
This month our aesthetician Raihana offers some special advice
about laser hair removal.  I also want to mention that I will be
out of the office the week of April 26th and returning on Tuesday,
May 4th. Our Nurse Practitioner Janie Dufault, ARNP will be seeing patients on Tuesday, April 27th. The office will be closed on Thursday, April 29th. For more information, call our office at
425-898-1228.

Kindest Regards,

Henri P. Gaboriau M.D., FACS

Introduction to ProLipo™

Pro Lipo Body Contouring
Research shows that regular exercise does manage your weight, and, yet by increasing your energy output, you will need more calories to burn. You might actually find yourself eating more, not less. So do not exercise to lose weight necessarily, but exercise to live a healthy, disease-free life. Sometimes you might have difficulty shedding those last few extra pounds. If all efforts have not achieved your desired results, then you
might be a good candidate for ProLipo™Laser Body Contouring.

Any areas of the body that have pockets of unwanted body fat can be improved with ProLipo: abdomen, love handles, saddle bags, inner and outer thighs, bra roll, back, knees, ankles and under the chin. For patients who only have loose skin without any fat deposits, ProLipo can also be used to tighten your skin!

ProLipo vs. Tumescent Liposuction

Until recently, Tumescent was the most common way to perform liposuction and it is performed by injecting a diluted mixture of fluid into the fatty tissue that is going to be removed.  ProLipo liposuction is performed with a Sciton laser and is actually able to tighten skin as well as easily as it removes fat.

The ProLipo is especially adept at removing fat in hard-to-get areas such as in male breasts or in areas around the waist. The ProLipo procedure has also been known to cause less bruising. The primary benefit of the ProLipo procedure over Tumescent liposuction is its ability to tighten skin to the extent that an additional surgery such as a "tummy tuck" may not be needed.

Liposuction: What is it?
Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and it ultimately can enhance your appearance and your self-image.

Where can liposuction be performed?

Liposuction may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, waist, upper arms, back, inner knees, chest area, cheeks, calves, and chin and neck.

How long does it take to recover?
Swelling should subside, bruising should fade, and initial results may appear in 2 to 4 weeks. With the continued practice of healthy nutrition and fitness, the loss of excess fatty tissue should be permanently maintained.

Who is eligible for liposuction?
Liposuction can be right for individuals bothered by excess fat deposits that don't respond to proper nutrition or exercise. I always recommend that you check with a certified nutritionist and that you exercise regularly to ensure that excessive fat is eliminated naturally. It is just better for your overall health and wellness if you watch what you eat and take the care to exercise
regularly. However, if you do all of the right things with exercise and nutrition and still do not get the results that you want, then we recommend liposuction. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity should never be considered a substitute for good nutrition and exercise.

Ideal candidates for liposuction are:
--Adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic
skin and good muscle tone.

--Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing.
--Non-smokers.
--Individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring.

BEAUTY Tip: Raihana Mahan

RE: the scoop on laser hair removal

Laser Hair Removal can help you get rid of unwanted hair almost anywhere on the body.
All it takes is a few fast and easy sessions! For your safety and comfort we use the latest
technology for hair removal. Our equipment allows for safe, fast and effective treatment of
all skin colors. Multiple treatments are generally required depending on your skin and hair!

--Your hair grows in three cycles: active, dormant and fallout.  In order to remove unwanted hair at all three cycles, you will need more than one treatment.
--Each time that you return for another treatment, you will see less hair growing back in the area.
--Multiple treatments usually about 4 weeks apart have been shown to provide long-term removal of unwanted hair  -RM

Henri's Spring Crab Bisque

In France on every street corner we have a local fishmonger.  In the northwest there is no shortage of wonderful places to buy fresh fish. When buying crab look for ones that are clean and fresh.  In France crab is called dormeur, which is French for "sleeper," and it is very popular!  Other than making crab cakes, my recipe for Crab Bisque is my favorite way to prepare crab!--HPG

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Serves 2--to--4

Ingredients:
6 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
¾ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ginger
4 cups milk
1 1/4 cups chicken stock
¼ cup white wine
3 tablespoons minced garlic
3 tablespoons shredded carrot
3 cups cooked crab meat, shredded
1 tablespoon Cognac
½ cup heavy cream

Directions:
1.   In a large pan over medium-low heat, melt butter and then stir
in flour, salt, pepper, and ginger.
2.   Slowly stir in the milk, chicken stock, and white wine,
stirring until smooth and slightly thickened.
3.   Add garlic, carrots, and crab meat; simmer for 10 minutes.
Stir in Cognac and cream, heat through, and serve hot.

Delicate crab meat swimming in a lightly seasoned cream sauce makes this bisque substantial enough for a delicious dinner. Serve it with thick wedges of French bread, fresh boiled asparagus al dente, cooked to "tender crisp" and a glass of Chardonnay for a light, but truly satisfying dining experience. Save a little bit of Cognac to sip after dinner and enjoy with an assortment of petits fours.  The name in French means "small oven" and petits fours do not have to be too sweet. In fact, there are several kinds and not all of them glazed with icing. In a French patisserie, an assortment of small desserts are sometimes called "mignardises," while unglazed  biscuits are called petit fours.  Bon Appétit!   -Henri P. Gaboriau M.D., FACS
