Dear Friends, Colleagues and Patients:

Greetings! Days are getting shorter and children are soon going back to school. These are signs that summer is soon coming to an end. That being said, with many more lovely days ahead of us, let's take a minute to look back at the summer and the effects the sun can have on our skin.

In this issue of Face Forward, various signs of aging caused by sun exposure along with several different treatment options will be discussed. Available at our Center, the Sciton® Laser offers state-of-the-art technology. With its ability to treat hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as plump up and tighten the skin, this non-invasive procedure yields outstanding results.
Our wonderful aesthetician Raihana is back with important tips on how to take care of your skin after cosmetic surgery!

My Refreshing Grilled Turkey, Brie and Pecan Salad is this month's recipe selection. It is one of my favorite meals and the perfect dinner for a warm summer night. To complete this great dish, you will also find my wine selection.

It is also very important to remind you that I am currently on vacation and will be returning to the office on September 8th. Although I am gone, our nurse practitioner Janie Dufault Yakovlevitch, ARNP, will be in on Tuesday, August 31st, for Botox appointments and to follow-up with patients I have seen prior to my vacation. Sun Damage and its Various Treatment Options
Sunshine, although essential for health and well-being, is certainly a hazard for the skin. For many people, it is a treat to spend time outdoors on sunny days. However, it makes it difficult to avoid excessive sun exposure and therefore, sun damage.
Sun damage of the skin, also known as photo damage, can be either acute as in sunburn, or more commonly chronic, seen as gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one's life. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation can sometimes be seen. Sun exposure will also produce fine and coarse wrinkles in many of us. There is a roughness to the skin and a laxity or looseness in advanced damage.

Treatment with the Sciton® Contour TRL™ Laser is a safe and effective way of treating fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, skin texture, uneven skin tone, sagging skin and hyperpigmentation. Amongst the many treatment options offered by this state-of-the-art laser, ProFractional and MicroLaserPeel treatments are ideal for these types of skin aging concerns.

Sciton® MicroLaserPeel

This skin resurfacing technique is ideal to decrease the appearance of sun damage such as sun spots, hyperpigmentation and fine wrinkles. This treatment targets unwanted skin pigmentation to reveal healthier, more even skin tone.

Sciton® ProFractional

The ProFractional treatment is ideal for loss of firmness. It targets deep tissues by stimulating collagen production and therefore creating tightening of the skin. Although not comparable to a mini-facelift or a traditional facelift, this technique yields amazing results.

Both treatment options can target unwanted signs of aging on the face, neck, chest and hands. Available in various levels of depth, intensity and aggressiveness, the required downtime can vary between 2-10 days. The Sciton® MicroLaserPeel and ProFractional treatments can also be performed at the same time as a mini-facelift or a traditional facelift for optimal results.

NEW! The Sciton® Weekend Peel

For those with minimal sun damage and thus, light hyperpigmentation, the Weekend Peel is the ideal treatment option. Performed by our Nurse Practitioner Janie Dufault Yakovlevitch, ARNP, this peel requires only 3 days of downtime. With the appropriate daily skin care regime, results can last from 1 to 2 years.

Henri's Refreshing Grilled Turkey, Brie and Pecan Salad

"This is a hearty salad that can be served as a meal - just serve with a good slice of crusty bread. - HPG"

Prep time:  30 minutes
Serves: 6

Small boneless turkey breast, skin removed (about 2 lbs)
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon of chopped fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon of chopped fresh thyme
3 tablespoons of olive oil
Red pepper flakes, to taste
Coarse salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

1 small shallot, finely chopped
1/3 cup of cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon of honey
Coarse salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
1/4 cup of grape seed oil
1/4 cup of olive oil
2.5 ounces of Brie
1/2 cup of pecans
Handful of radicchio leaves, torn or shredded
1 head of romaine lettuce
Handful of grape tomatoes

  1. Preheat grill to high.
  2. Pound the turkey breast to 3/4-inch thickness.
  3. In a shallow baking pan or bowl, combine garlic, rosemary, thyme, olive oil and red pepper flakes. Add turkey and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes so flavors meld. Season turkey with salt and pepper.
  4. Grill turkey over high to medium high heat for 5 to 6 minutes per side or until turkey is just cooked through. Let cool to room temperature. Slice turkey on the diagonal and reserve for salad.
  1. Make the salad dressing by whisking together the shallots, cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, honey, salt, pepper and grape seed oil and olive oil in a small bowl.
  2. In a large serving bowl, add the sliced turkey, pecans, Brie, radicchio, romaine and grape tomatoes. Toss salad with enough dressing to taste. Serve immediately.
Henri's Wine Pick of the Crop!
2004 Bodegas Portia Prima Ribera del Duero, Spain

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversities in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds to dry whites, Spain can easily pride itself on elaborating a wide variety of notable styles.

Portia Prima Ribera del Duero is a brand new Spanish red wine gem displaying the depth and complexity of the 2004 vintage for this fast-rising Spanish wine region. This delicious wine is cherry red in color with reflections of violet. It offers beautiful aromas and flavors of blackberry, black currant, vanilla, cocoa, violets and toasty oak. Medium-full in body with sweet tannins, the wine has a smooth, silky texture. Well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 10-12 years, it has excellent depth and a long, rich finish. Portia Prima Ribera del Duero is a great combination with this month's recipe. Enjoy!
