Xeomin®, Botox®, Dysport® and Fillers

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Gaboriau is now offering Xeomin® in addition to Botox® and Dysport®.

Xeomin, manufactured by Merz Aesthetic, has gained FDA approval for the treatment of frown lines in 2011. The official launch of this new alternative to wrinkle treatment is scheduled for spring 2012.

However, because of his extensive experience with injectables, Dr. Gaboriau is exclusively able to offer you Xeomin ahead of time.

Xeomin differs from Botox and Dysport by the absence of accessory proteins, which are thought to create resistance in some patients. Xeomin can be used in the same areas than Botox and Dysport which includes wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines and crow's feet lines around the eyes. Its action lasts approximately 4 months but it usually takes only 2 days to see the results compared to Botox with 5 to 10 days.

Call now to try Xeomin at an introductory special rate!

The Center also offers Fillers such as Radiesse®, Juvederm Ultra® and Juvederm Ultra Plus®. Radiesse is mainly use for deep lines (folds around the mouth) as well as in the cheek areas to "plump up" the mid-face. Juvederm is used in the lips to either increase volume or treat the lip lines.

For optimal results Dr. Gaboriau likes to use Fillers in conjunction with Xeomin, Botox or Dysport.

"I would be happy to further discuss these options with you and determine together which one is best suited for you. Call today to schedule an appointment." -HPG

Laser Hair Removal
At the Sammamish Center Medical Spa we get asked many questions regarding Laser Hair Removal. How does it work? What exactly happens to the hair? How many treatments do I need? Etc. These are all important questions that each patient should know the answers to.
Laser Hair Removal is done with an intense beam of light – laser – that removes the unwanted hair at the root. The laser passes through the layers of the skin to the root of the hair follicle and zaps it with the heat to destroy the follicle. This safe process, after a few treatments, usually destroys the follicle so the hair can no longer grow back. This of course, is not a guaranteed removal process. However, for hairs that are more coarse and stubborn, such as those on the back and in the pubic area, it makes the hair much thinner for easier removal.

Each hair follicle grows in three phases, 1) Anagen – Beginning, 2) Catagen – Transition, and 3) Telogen – Resting. The beginning stage of the hair, or anagen, is where the laser actually heats up the follicle and is able to destroy it so that the other two phases are not achievable. Multiple treatments are required to achieve this.

On average, it will take approximately 4-6 treatments for patients to achieve this goal. This can vary based on various factors: 1) the type of hair and its coarseness, 2) the patient's skin type, and finally 3) the location of the hair removal. Each treatment, also depending on the body area being treated, can take anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour.

Laser Hair Removal is not for everyone. Unfortunately, for patients who have light skin and light hair, such as peach fuzz or blonde body hair, Laser Hair Removal is not an option. However, for those who have light skin and dark hair it can be extremely effective.

Here are a few things that all patients should know before considering laser hair removal.
  • First of all, your skin tone must be at its natural state – no tanning! Any form of tanning alters the pigment of your skin and the laser cannot get a proper read due on the pigment, which is critical to the success of the treatment.
  • Secondly, no waxing or tweezing can be done on the area(s) to be treated for at least eight weeks prior to the first treatment. If the hair follicle has been ripped out before the treatment the laser has no follicle to destroy.

If you have further questions about laser hair removal, or would like to schedule a complimentary consultation with one of the spa's aestheticians, please call the office and we will be happy to help!
