Dr. Gaboriau and the Sammamish Center Medical Spa offer a wide array of skin resurfacing procedures and treatments, customized for your particular needs.  From least invasive to most aggressive, the procedures are as follows:

  • Microdermabrasion

Improves skin texture, uneven skin color, acne scarring, clogged pores and blackheads, large pores, sunspots and age spots.  Skin is restored to a more youthful appearance and there is no downtime.  A series of treatments is recommended, possibly in conjunction with glycolic acid peels.

  • Glycolic Acid Peel (30 to 40%)

These superficial peels are designed to smooth coarse, dry skin, improve the texture of sun-damaged skin, and even out skin tone.  There is no downtime with appropriate sun protection, and regular activities may be resumed immediately.  Some minor flaking of the skin may occur within a few days after the treatment.  A series of treatments is recommended, usually in conjunction with microdermabrasion.

  • Glycolic Acid Peel (50 to 70%)

These medium peels contain a stronger potency of acid than the superficial peels.  They target the epidermis and upper dermis and cause the skin to slough off within 5 to 7 days.  Immediately after treatment the skin has a red appearance and is occasionally accompanied by swelling.  Within a day the skin may turn a brownish color.  After 3 days the skin initiates the peeling process.

  • LHE (Light, Heat Energy) Treatment

Also called photorejuvenation, photofacial, or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments, LHE targets fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and skin tone, rough skin, acne and rosacea.  The SkinStation® used by the Sammamish Center uses light and heat energy together instead of light alone, providing better and faster results with less power, which results in a lessened burn risk for the epidermis.  A series of 3 to 6 treatments at 3 week intervals is usually recommended.  Downtime varies from a few hours to one day.  NO sun exposure is allowed during the course of treatment.  The face, neck, chest and hands may be treated with LHE.

  • Sciton® ProFractional/MicroLaserPeel Treatment

Treatment with the Sciton® ProFractional Erbium:YAG laser is a safe and effective way of treating fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, skin texture, uneven skin tone, sagging skin, sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Unlike other lasers, the Sciton laser can be used to both tighten and resurface the skin simultaneously.  With several treatment options available at various levels of depth, intensity and aggressiveness, the type of anesthetic used can be a topical cream, a mild sedative, or IV sedation.  Downtime also varies with type of treatment and can be anywhere from 1 ½ - 5 days.  Make-up can be applied relatively soon afterwards.

  • TCA (Chemical) Peel (35%)

Used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, sunspots, enlarged pores, rough skin, and uneven skin tone.  The procedure is done under a light sedation, and downtime is 7 days.  Risks and complications include scarring (very rare), hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation, bacterial staph infection, and viral herpes infection.  (Antibiotics and Valtrex are taken prior to the peel to help prevent both types of infection.)  Because sun exposure must be completely avoided for the first 7 days and kept to a minimum for 2 months afterwards, TCA Peels are not performed during the summer months.

  • MelaGen Peel

A “Skin Lightening System,” the MelaGen peel is a safe and effective superficial peel for all skin tones, designed to improve the texture and appearance of uneven skin, deep pigment issues and/or melasma.  The MelaGen masque is applied in office and remains on the skin up to several hours, depending upon skin type.  It is then removed at home by the patient who then also completes an easy-to-follow, but strict, at-home regimen.  Some redness and peeling is to be expected for a few days.
