At the Sammamish Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, we are dedicated to maintaining the highest Standard of Care for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as cosmetic facial rejuvenation. My staff and I have put together a list to help you evaluate whether a facility or a practitioner meets our standard of care.
Who will administer treatment?
In Washington State there is no clear law enforcing who can inject Botox or fillers. It is crucial that a medical professional, meaning a doctor (MD), registered nurse (RN), nurse practitioner (ARNP) or physician's assistant (PA) administer Botox or filler injections, as opposed to a spa technician.
Who administers the facility where you plan to receive treatment?
Inquire about the training of the medical professionals that supervised the Medical Spa. ideally, the professional should be a Medical Doctor who has been board certified as a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist.
Is your Medical Doctor board certified?
Your surgeon's certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery means that your surgeon has met the rigorous standards of the ABFPRS, and subscribes to the ABFPRS Code of Ethics.
What type of Facility is offering the treatment?
Understand the difference between Medical Spas and day spas. Medical Spas provide medical treatments, such as microdermabrsion, laser hair removal and glycolic acid peels, and should have a certified Medical Doctor available on-site to oversee procedures and administration of pharmaceuticals used. Day spas cannot purchase or use medical-grade products whereas Medical Spas may do so under an MD license.
Have you done background research?
Before undergoing any cosmetic procedures, patients should fully understand the products or the procedures being used for their quality and authenticity. So much of this type of information is now easily accessible on the Internet. It is also crucial to check the reputation of the medical personnel and the facility.
