Botox for Men

Submitted by sammamishAdmin in BotoxInjectable Fillers on August 30th

Botox is a popular brand name for a medicinal form of botulinum toxin, a type of protein and neurotoxin. The toxin is produced by the same bacterium that causes botulism or food poisoning. When Botox is injected into certain muscles, it acts as a muscle relaxant instead of a poison. The effects can last for several months.

Botulinum toxin medicine is available in two forms: Botox and Botox Cosmetic. The first form is used to treat medical problems. The second form is used in cosmetic procedures to eliminate wrinkles and rejuvenate the face.

While the typical Botox patient is female, many plastic surgeons report that men are seeking treatment in increasing numbers. A drop in stigma is one explanation for the increased interest by men. However, growing provider availability is making Botox injections more common for men and women alike.

In 2011, the number of men undergoing Botox injections accounted for more than ten percent all patients seeking this procedure. In fact, it was the most common non-surgical cosmetic treatment performed on men, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Generally, men seek a different outcome than women seek from cosmetic Botox injections. Most men hope to correct forehead wrinkles or a furrowed brow, while women tend toward a total face makeover. Botox is usually recommended for addressing laugh lines, crow’s feet and other face wrinkles.

Unlike surgical procedures, Botox injections do not produce lasting results. Most patients undergo maintenance injections every three to six months. Men who want to learn more about this procedure should talk to licensed and board-certified plastic surgeon in Seattle.
