Question:
I have read that some chin augmentations involve removing bones from the chin. What type of people need this type of procedure?
Answer:
Usually when removing bone from the chin, it is not for augmentation purposes but quite the opposite – for chin reduction when the chin is quite prominent and extended forward. This can give a more masculine appearance for women, but the procedure can be performed on men and women both. The incision is made inside the mouth or underneath the chin, in order to shave the bone. There can be a risk of injury to the nerves that provide sensation to the skin around the chin area. If nerve damage happens, the result would be numbness of the chin.
